Lindsey's Law
Dear Parents and Swimmers,
If your child plans to participate on the Idle Hour Swim Team, you and your child will need to read below about Lindsay’s Law and the new requirement it adds for young athletes. Follow the link below to watch the video and complete the attached form. This form needs to be turned in on the first day of practice to the coach. Both parent and swimmer must sign the form. No swimmer will be allowed to participate on the first day of practice without this signed form. WE WILL HAVE SIGNATURE FORMS AT PRACTICE IF YOU NEED.
Lindsay’s Law adds new requirement for student-athletes
Beginning in summer 2018, Idle Hour Swimmers have a new annual responsibility to fulfill before participating on the Idle Hour Swim Team. The new requirement is centered around Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Every child planning to participate in a sport must watch the video below and turn in the signature form to the coach of that age group. This is now an annual requirement.
Lindsay’s Law, Ohio Revised Code 3313.5310, 3707.58 and 3707.59 became effective on August 1, 2017 .
In accordance with this law, the Ohio Department of Health, the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio High School Athletic Association, the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and other stakeholders jointly developed guidelines and other relevant materials to inform and educate students and youth athletes participating in or desiring to participate in an athletic activity, their parents, and their coaches about the nature and warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest.
The following resources were developed to implement Lindsay’s Law:
* Required SCA Informational Handout
* Required Signature Form (Signature forms are also available at Idle Hour during practice)
